Let the monthly incomes of A and B be 6a and 5a respectively.

Monthly expenditures of A, B be 4b and 3b respectively.

Each save Rs.400

⇒ 6a − 4b = 400 ———> (1)

⇒ 5a − 3b = 400 ———> (2)

Solving equations (1) and (2) we get

a = 200

⇒ Sum of their incomes = 6a + 5a = 11a

= 11 Ã— 200 = Rs.2200
