Let, the number of notes of each denomination be = a

Therefore,

(1 × a) + (5 × a) + (10 × a) = 640

a + 5a + 10a = 640

16a = 640

a = 640/16 = 40

The total number of notes that he has

= a + a + a = 3a = 3 × 40 = 120
