Let the cost price and the loss be C and L respectively.

C − 1250 = L —–(1)

C −1000 = (100 + 20) % L

C − 1000 = 1.2L —–(2)

Subtracting Eq (1) from (2) we get

250 = 0.2L

Therefore, L = 250/0.2 = Rs.1250

Substituting L in Eq (1) we get

C = Rs.2500
